Search for Man Missing in Meramec Resumes After Storms

High Ridge and Eureka fire crews have resumed their search for a man who disappeared Friday during a float trip on the Meramec River near Eureka, our partners at FOX2 report. (View photos from FOX 2.)

The day started for them at the Allenton boat ramp, according to the Post-Dispatch. They were headed toward the Twin Rivers takeout when they called authorities at around 2:45 p.m. and said their friend had gone missing.

The report states he had apparently been hanging on outside one of the rafts. The friends said they weren't sure when he had gone missing.

A spokesperson for the Eureka Fire Department told Patch they currently have four boats in the water searching for the missing boater with crews also combing the river's banks. St. Louis County Metro Air Support is providing helicopter assistance as well.

The man is around 25 years old and was not wearing a flotation device, St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The search was suspended around 7 p.m. on Friday due to severe weather, according to Post-Dispatch. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for St. Louis County Friday afternoon. River water levels are expected to rise nearly 10 feet from Friday through Sunday evening.

Patch will update this story as more information becomes available.
