H-J Enterprises Gets OK to Proceed With Expansion of High Ridge Facility

More warehouse space and a testing laboratory are the goals of an expansion plan for H-J Enterprises, Inc., of High Ridge.

H-J Enterprises, Inc., 3010 High Ridge Blvd. High Ridge, is seeking to add about 40,000 square feet to its facility on 6217 Highway PP in High Ridge and was seeking a variance to Jefferson County zoning regulations in order to do so. It received approval for the variances at Thursday's meeting of the Planning band Zoning Commission. H-J president Jay Sheckelton, said the new space would be used to increase the company's warehouse capacity by about 40,000 square feet and to create a 10,000 square-foot high voltage testing lab. As a long-range result of the expansion, Sheckleton said the company ultimately hopes to add 35-40 people to the payroll. "We have a great work force," he said. Flash Flooding Not a Major Problem in Fenton, High Ridge

Heavy rains today prompted Jefferson County emergency officials to alert residents who live near rivers to move to higher ground. That's especially the case in Desoto where emergency evacuations and rescues have taken place, our partners at Fox 2 report. Power has been shut off in some parts of the city and an emergency shelter has been set up. However, there have been no major reports of flooding in Fenton and High Ridge, said Jina Akins, deputy director of the the Jefferson County Emergency Management Department. But that may change. High Ridge Kmart to Close in Mid-June

The store, which opened in 1983, began its liquidation sale last week. Currently, all merchandise is 10- to 30-percent off.

The High Ridge Kmart, which opened 30 years ago at 4560 Gravois Village Center, is shuttering its doors.  The store will close in mid-June. It began its liquidation sale last week. Currently, all merchandise is 10- to 30-percent off. Kmart is subsidiary of Sears Holdings Corporation. Howard Riefs, a company spokesman for Sears Holdings, said in a statement to Patch: "As a part of the ordinary course of business we close stores for a variety of reasons. Fit Gym Now Open in Fenton

The 24-hour fitness center is at 1177 Gravois Rd. near the intersection of New Sugar Creek Road. A grand opening celebration is planned for Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The new gym opened recently at 1177 Gravois Rd. near the intersection of New Sugar Creek Road in Fenton. It offers 24-hour access and bills itself as having one of the St. Louis area's most diverse selections of strength, cardio, athletic performance and functional training/CrossFit options. During Fight in Jefferson County, One Man Hits Another in Head With Baseball Bat

Our media partners at FOX-2 reported that the fight happened at the Country Manor Club apartment complex southeast of High Ridge.

A fight between two men in Jefferson County escalated when one hit the other in the head with a baseball bat, our media partners at FOX-2 reports. It occurred early last Wednesday morning.  The incident happened in the Country Manor Club apartment complex in the area of Hawthorn and Red Bud drives southeast of High Ridge.  The victim was taken to the hospital and was later released, FOX-2 reports. High Ridge Woman Who Helped Rescue Driver to Be Honored

Kristin Martin was one of three to come to the aid of the driver in Arnold. Martin will be honored for her actions at a special ceremony at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 1.

Three people who came to the aid of a driver who was having a seizure on Vogel Road will be honored for their heroic actions by the Rock Community Fire Protection District on Monday, April 1. The ceremony, which is open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. at the district's headquarters at 3749 Telegraph Rd. Cake and refreshments will be served. On March 19 Zachary Green, of Imperial, and his girlfriend Kristin Martin, of High Ridge, noticed the woman swerving as she approached a green light at Vogel Road while trying to get on Interstate 55.  They stopped in the middle of the intersection and began running toward the the car, calling out to other drivers for help. Red light cameras captured the part of the incident.
