Students from Bogor, Indonesia, were at Truman Middle School last month.
A group of 17 students from St. Louis’ sister city of Bogor, Indonesia, visited Lindbergh schools Oct. 22-26, to meet their Facebook friends from Laurice Badino’s LEAP social studies class and learn more about American school and ways of life. During their visit, students shared musical customs as Truman orchestra students played a song and the students from Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 1 Bogor school performed a traditional folk dance. Both principals also signed a Memorandum of Understanding, committing to the continuation of cultural exchange between the two schools. Sparks was Missouri Teacher of the Year in 2004.
Longtime Lindbergh employee and former Missouri Teacher of the Year Tara Sparks has been named principal of Truman Middle School, effective July 1, according to an announcement from the Lindbergh School District. As director of assessment and student services in Lindbergh’s Curriculum and Instruction department, Sparks coordinates the development of middle school curriculum; oversees student assessments districtwide, including the MAP test; and works closely with Special School District. She also directs district guidance and nursing staff, and developed Lindbergh’s 504 procedures to ensure compliance for assisting students with special needs. Dr. Jennifer Tiller was selected by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals.
Dr. Jennifer Tiller is truly a "pal" amongst Missouri middle school principals. She was named by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals as the 2012 Missouri Middle School Principal of the Year. She was recognized for her impact in areas of collaborative leadership and curriculum, instruction and assessment; and her personalization of the learning environment. More than 400 middle school principals across the state competed for the award. Tiller is principal of Truman Middle School in the Lindbergh School District and led the district's successful transition to two middle schools in 2010-11 when she was principal of Sperreng Middle School. Brand new Concord Elementary is just one of several district schools with major renovations to address enrollment growth.
Students at Concord Elementary School started the year off today in a brand new school. The new elementary school building is the first new elementary in the Lindbergh District since Kennerly opened 50 years ago. The new school features a library, 35 brightly colored classrooms with state-of-the art interactive teaching technology, two age-specific playgrounds and a competition-size gym. Construction progress districtwide and the recent purchase of Dressel School are in response to enrollment projections that showed an increase of almost 450 students in grades K-12 by 2015.
