The Flyers maintained a 7-7 tie well into the 4th quarter, but fell with just a few minutes left in the game.
The score was supposed to be much more lopsided. They weren’t supposed to have the ball with two minutes left and a chance to win the game. But that’s where the Lindbergh Flyers found themselves Friday night in their district opener at Parkway South thanks to an impressive defensive effort that kept the underdogs in the game from start to finish. Flyers fall to 3-6, after 14-2 loss, in final home game for seniors.
Like often happens in sports, a close and controversial call that went against the Lindbergh High football team Friday night, might have made the difference, as the Flyers played their final home game of the season at Flyers Field on the Lindbergh campus. Wide receiver-turned quarterback Chuck Houska hit tight end Brad MacKeen for a sprint out pass that looked like a touchdown that would’ve pulled Lindbergh to within seven points early in the fourth quarter. Instead though, the officials ruled that MacKeen didn’t break the plane of the goalline on the 4th-and-goal play, and in fact, did not score, which gave the ball back to visiting Mehlville, which held on for a 14-2 win over the Flyers. “It’s really tough when a call like that goes …

Turnovers prove costly, as Lions give up three late touchdowns in 26-6 loss at Lindbergh.
On a night when the folks at Lindbergh High in Sunset Hills, planned to throw their biggest football party of the year to celebrate Homecoming, it was the absolute desperate-for-a-win group from Northwest High that showed up with plans on spoiling it for the Flyers. And for 43 minutes, Friday night at Lindbergh's Flyers Field, the Lions were doing a fantastic job of ruining all the fun for the Flyers, keeping what was supposed to be a home team blowout tied at 6 apiece. But in the final five minutes, Northwest finally caved. Returners Garrett Krueger, Logan Offner and Justin Muehlhausler will be key players this season.
The Lindbergh football season officially kicked off Monday as athletes put on their pads for camp and coaches got the first look at the prospective team. “I think our kids are fired up and excited—ready and focused,” coach Tom Beauchamp said. “In high school football, it’s about how much you improve, but also about how much your opponents improve.” The coach believes his team can and will improve enough to make a run at the conference championship. Both teams struggle offensively, but the Flyers turn breaks into points in a 20-0 win over the Mustangs.
SUNSET HILLS–Lindbergh head football coach Tom Beauchamp earned the 100th victory of his 17-year coaching career on Friday night when the Flyers outlasted visiting Marquette, 20-0, in a matchup of surging Suburban West Conference teams at Lindbergh’s Flyers Field. Beauchamp took over as head man of the Lindbergh program in the mid-90s, after serving for many years as the defensive coordinator at Mehlville. In his Lindbergh career, Beauchamp has led the Flyers to six conference championships, more than a dozen playoff appearances, and even a trip to the Show-Me Bowl state championship game in 2002. But few victories in his career left the coach as prideful as win No. 100 did on “Pink Out Night” at Lindbergh, in which the entire Flyers team…

SUNSET HILLS—Even with back-to-back Suburban West Conference championships on its résumé, Lindbergh High football coach Tom Beauchamp refuses to let his 2011 club bask in the glow of the program’s past glory. Instead, Beauchamp insists that every one of his Flyer teams develop its own identity and credit its own legacy based on its own success. “First thing I say to them is, 'You aren’t last year, and you aren’t two years ago,'” Beauchamp said. “That was a different team that accomplished those things and won those championships. These guys have to make their own name.
