Fenton Salon Owner to Help Eureka Teen Go Bald to Battle Leukemia

To support a friend and a noble cause, the teenager plans to donate her 13 inches of hair, while helping raise funds for cancer research.

Eureka resident Kate Daniels, an eighth grader at LaSalle Springs Middle School in Wildwood, plans to have her head shaved bald March 9 to help find a cure for childhood cancer. Inspired to ‘go bald’ as a result of watching her classmate and friend, Evan Pina White, battle leukemia, Daniels is raising money for St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a California-headquartered volunteer charity committed to funding the most promising research for childhood cancers.  “I know I can raise a lot of money to help kids like Evan. I hope to raise over $5,000," said Daniels, who has had long hair her entire life. Daniels is being sponsored by Blu: A Color Salon, 794 Gravois Bluffs Blvd., Fenton. Jake Franzel's Friends Show Up To Get Their Hair Done

Lindbergh athlete was the inspiration behind a St. Baldrick's fundraiser that benefits kids who have cancer.

If Lindbergh Senior High’s Jake Franzel ever wondered who his true friends were, those questions were answered when nearly 40 members of the Flyers football team showed up for a recent St. Baldrick’s Fundraiser at Helen Fitzgerald’s Irish Grill and Pub on South Lindbergh. Franzel, who’s currently a junior at Lindbergh, suffers from Osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer that he’s been battling since his freshman year. Jake’s father Mike explained that his family was humbled by the support from the Lindbergh community. “The most valuable gift is that his friends let him know that he still belongs with them,” Franzel said. “These guys came out and just touched our family in a way that will last forever.” For Lindbergh head football …
