Man With a Mission at SSM Health Care

St. Clare Health Center's new President Bill Hoefer affirms his commitment to the mission of his organization.

SSM Health Care recently held a missioning ceremony for St. Clare Health Center’s new president, Bill Hoefer. SSM Health Care’s President/CEO, Bill Thompson, conducted the rite of missioning for Hoefer. The practice of “missioning” someone to service has its roots in scripture, in both the Old and New Testament. The missioning ceremony is one way of publicly affirming a commitment not only to support, but to promote the mission and values of SSM Health Care. It also serves to highlight and celebrate the true meaning of its work, according to a news release from St. Clare. 20-Year-Old Stroke Victim Beats the Odds at SSM St. Clare

Family, friends, doctors and nurses celebrate a 19-year-old patient who "exceeded highest hopes" following a devastating stroke.

Editor's Note: Nicholas Roth, communications specialist at of SSM St. Clare Health Center, 1015 Bowles Ave., Fenton, reports on a celebration the hospital had Sunday with doctors, caregivers, family and friends of Isabel Wimmer-Brown, a 20-year-old patient who spent a year recovering and rehabilitating from a life-threatening stroke with treatment at St. Clare and other local SSM facilities. It all started July 2, 2011, when Isabel, then 19, had a headache, became sick and then unresponsive. She was immediately taken to the SSM St. Mary’s Health Center Emergency Department, Roth reports. Precious Metal Recovery is Aim of New SSM Program

X-ray films and other supplies contain a variety of metals that can be recovered and recycled.

SSM Health Care – St. Louis has announced a partnership with Arch Enterprises (a precious metal refinery) to implement a program for recovering precious metals from medical supplies and radiology films, according to an SSM news release. In addition to X-ray films, precious metal can be found in a variety of supplies, including EP catheters and electrodes. Arch Enterprises will remove the metal from the used supplies and pay SSM Health Care – St. Louis a market based price for it, accrding to the release. Collection containers will be placed throughout the hospital departments for depositing supplies withy the anticipation of earning as much as $200,000 annually. SSM St. Clare Offers New Program To Streamline ER Patient Waiting Times

InQuicker will allow patients with minor emergencies to wait at home instead of the ER waiting room

A new service at some SSM Health Care hospitals will allow potential emergency room patients to wait at home for treatment instead of waiting in the ER's lobby, according to a news release from SSM Health Care. With a new service called InQuicker, SSM Health Care – St. Louis Emergency Department patients with minor emergencies can go online to hold their place in line. Instead of sitting in the waiting room, patients can select a projected treatment time online and relax at home or the location of their choice until it is time to go the ER for treatment. Perhaps if this is the case, those patients can visit their PMDs or a STAT health clinic. Big Changes Announced This Week at SSM St. Clare Health Center

Two big changes were announced this week at SSM St. Clare Health Center, 1015 Bowles Ave. Fenton. Robert William (Bill) Hoefer was named as president of SSM St. Clare. In addition to leading the 174-bed hospital, which opened in 2009, Hoefer will serve as  executive for the SSM Neurosciences Institute. Hoefer will begin his duties on Jan. 3, 2012. He replaces Sherry Hausmann, who resigned this spring as SSM St. Clare’s original president to accept a position out-of-state. Hoefer has spent 16 years with Sentara Healthcare in Norfolk, Va., a non-profit, 10-hospital system located throughout Virginia and North Carolina. For the past four years, Hoefer served as vice president of operations for Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, a 543-bed …
