Fenton Triathlon Shortened to Biathlon as Storms Sink Swim

200 racers spread out over the streets of Fenton for the city's first triathlon.

Dark clouds and lightning at the scheduled 7 a.m. start of the first Fenton Triathlon on Saturday made for an easy decision for race organizers as the outdoor swim portion of the event in the RiverChase of Fenton outdoor pool was dropped. Racers would only compete in a 16.5-mile bike race, followed by a 3.1-mile run, much of it in a steady rain. The elements apparently were no problem for Kevin Zimmerman, 27, of High Ridge, who was the overall winner of the triathlon, traversing the course in 1 hour, 11 minutes and 56 seconds. Justin Davies, 39, of Fenton, placed second with a 1:12:01 time. Mauricio Felix, 35 of O'Fallon, MO was third at 1:13:21. Despite the rainy weather, the temperatures were relatively cool for the racers. And even …

Patch is here to help, with a list of the coldest things to drink, eat or do in town. So get out of your basement and enjoy a little sun this summer. You’re welcome. Ice House. The headquarters for Vivian International might sound like the coldest place in town, but actually, they just make the coldest freezers in town. Ice House staffers said the coldest freezer they make is used for storing ice cream, which needs to be held at -10 degrees. By comparison, ice cubes only need to be …

9 Views From The Top of Town

If you ever want to be above it all, here are a few places in Fenton you can do it.

In looking for "high" lights in Fenton, we wanted to capture the view from the top of town, not necessarily the statistically highest physical point (ever try reading a U.S. Geological Survey map?) but some spots that provided largely unobstructed views of the surrounding area. The first stop is Ocello Drive, which is used by Fenton city as the center of town in some of its planning documents. Located atop a hill At the end of Ocello Drive is Nooter/Eriksen, a global supplier of heat recovery systems. Nooter employees may have the best view in town. To the south is the scenic John Fabick Nature Preserve that features a gleaming lake and wooded surroundings. A different sort of countryside is to the northeasteast with a view dominated by …

What Makes Your Dog Special?

What is the one characteristic that sticks out when you think about your pet?

Santa's lap was full at RiverChase in Fenton Saturday as it was a dog day afternoon. People and their pets posed with Santa. We took the opportunity to find out what their dogs mean to them. "My dog Keely is a Jack Russell terrier mix.  She is almost a year.  The funniest thing she does is jump the couch for squeak toys.  She can completely clear it.  She will do anything for a squeak toy." -Jim Hubbard, 52 , St. Louis "We call Shelby our angel dog.  She is 13 years old and is a Bichon Frise.  We inherited her from my sister who died from breast cancer.  My mother and I had joint custody of her until my mother passed away last year.  Now we have Shelby all of the time and think that she keeps my sister and mom close to us." -Jana Engle, 39…
