Have you seen those spider web-like "baskets" in tree limbs throughout the St. Louis area? Take a close look at the mostly impenetrable web structure and you'll see Eastern Tent Caterpillars, whose diet consists of leaves on the tree they have built their tents on. In recent days, many of the tent caterpillars have left their cozy abodes and are walking around on driveways and backyard decks and patios, looking for a place to build a cocoon. According to the University of Missouri Extension Service website, the Eastern Tent Caterpillar is a native defoliator that occurs as far west as the Rocky Mountains. High Ridge business hopes to raise funds for the Jefferson County Library Foundation.
Lindsay Winkler, of Bi-State Landscape Supply & Garden Gifts, 3112 Pleasant View Drive, High Ridge, is hosting a "Ladies Party" April 28 that will feature refreshments, a wine tasting, music, massages and goodie bags in conjunction with showcasing many of the flowers, plants and garden gifts carried by the business. A percentage of the proceeds will go to the Jefferson County Library Foundation. “I wanted to do something for the library because my daughter and I are very active library users, said Winkler. Last meals are seldom celebrated, but this month the documented meals served the infamous day the Titanic sank will again be cooked and presented throughout the Patch community. Countless home “sinking parties” are being planned.
