Fenton's Prescription-Only Pseudoephedrine Plan Gets More Votes, Still Doesn't Pass

Pseudoephedrine products still will be available in Fenton without a prescription, following the failure of a prescription-only plan to gain enough votes

A bill to require a doctor's prescription to purchase pseudoephedrine from Fenton pharmacies received more "yes" votes than "no" votes Thursday night, but it still will not become the law of the city. The prescription-only bill apparently had been approved on a 4-2 vote. But the victory for proponents of the bill was short-lived. The reason? Even though the proposed law received a majority of aldermanic votes at Thursday's meeting, it did not achieve a majority of the full board, which is constituted to have eight members. One aldermanic seat is vacant after Alderman Jerry Sorge, Ward 2, moved from the city last fall. And, Alderman Gary Fischer, Ward 4, was absent Thurday. So, with four votes to approve the prescription-only bill, it did …

Zephrex-D has not been granted exception status by the DEA. Until then, it's just another box sitting behind the counter. Again, people, Zephrex-D is NO DIFFERENT (legally speaking) than Sudafed, Claritin-D, etc. Quit spreading the lies that it is the answer. It is not.   more ›

Westport Pharmaceuticals is a subsidiary of Highland. Zephrex-D: Good News For Allergy Sufferers, Bad News For Meth Cooks

The new decongestant Zephrex-D should be in St. Louis pharmacies this year. It's gaining support from drug task force agents because it can't be converted into meth. Here's how it works.

A new decongestant set to hit St. Louis area pharmacies in November is gaining support from drug agents in the fight against methamphetamine.  (Read Previous Story: Zephrex-D: Meth-Busting Decongestant in St. Louis Pharmacies This Year) As previously reportedly by Patch, authorities say meth makers purchase popular allergy medications and extract the pseudoephedrine from them.  "You can take a pseudoephedrine pill and the first thing you do is try and extract as much pure pseudoephedrine as possible and step two, you convert that pure pseudoephedrine into methamphetamine," Paul Hemings, with Highland Pharmaceuticals, tells Patch.  In November, Highland Pharmaceuticials is unveiling a new decongestant, Zephrex-D, that Hemings said prevents …
