Jefferson County Library patrons can now 'check out' books online, according to a news release from the library. The library has added three new digital collections of books, audiobooks and interactive videos for children, teens and adults from Tumblebooks Cloud. Jefferson County Library’s Northwest Branch received a grant of more than $7,000 to purchase a digital microfilm reader and computer.
Thanks to a new grant, Jefferson County Library’s Northwest Branch will now have a new digital microform reader and accompanying computer. The grant was made available through funds from the Library Services and Technology Act appropriated by Congress and administered by the Institution of Museum and Library Services and the Missouri Secretary of State, according to a press release from the library. The grant of $7,831 will pay 75 percent of the total cost; Friends of the Library – Northwest Branch will cover the remaining costs, according to the release. A new self checkout station has been installed at the Jefferson County Library - Northwest Branch. The library already had two stations, but increasing demand led to the installation of a third, notes a Feb. 23 news release from the library. “Patrons like the option of checking materials out themselves,” stated Cindy Hayes, branch manager, in the release. “They don’t have to wait in line when staff are busy registering new users, or doing other tasks which can be time consuming.” The Northwest Branch is located at 5680 State Road PP in High Ridge. Jefferson County Library will continue its popular “Food for Fines” amnesty on the final Friday of each month during 2013. The next amnesty date is Feb. 22. Customers with outstanding fines for overdue materials may have their fines erased by donating canned food items. During 2013 the library will forgive up to one dollar infines for each can of food donated. On Jan. 25 the library collected 571 canned food items and waived $512 in overdue fines. During 2012 the library collected a total of 6,827 canned food items and waived $6,362 in overdue fines. All the food collected is donated to area food pantries. There is no limit on the number or amount of fines that can be cleared, but bills for lost or damaged library items, orfines or bills …

Library Foundation Acknowledges 2012 Donors The Jefferson County Library Foundation acknowledges the donors who contributed to the Foundation in 2012. During 2012 the Foundation raised $7,938 in corporate grants and personal donations. Since January 1st, the library has received another $700. The Walmart Foundation donated $3000 on behalf of the Arnold, Fenton and High Ridge Walmart Supercenters. The funds were used to purchase “View” players, handheld DVD players with preloaded award-winning content for preschoolers. The three stores donated an additional $900 to pay for a one year trial subscription for “WishList” software that allows individuals and groups to donate to the Library Foundation or Friends online, using a secured credit …

Customers with outstanding fines for overdue materials may have their fines erased by donating canned food items. During 2013 the library will forgive up to one dollar in fines for each can of food donated. On December 28 the library collected 634 canned food items and waived $582 in overdue fines. During 2012 the library collected a total of 6,827 canned food items and waived $6,362 in overdue fines. Customers with outstanding fines for overdue materials may have their fines erased by donating canned food items. During 2012 the library will forgive up to one dollar in fines for each can of food donated. On October 26 the library collected 671 canned food items and waived $562 in overdue fines. The Board of Trustees of the Jefferson County Library has adopted a tobacco and smoke-free policy for all library-owned buildings, vehicles and grounds, effective January 1, according to library director Pam Klipsch in a news release from the library. The use of tobacco products or electronic or smokeless cigarettes will be prohibited inside facilities owned or leased by Jefferson County Library, on library-owned property, and in library-owned vehicles. “We are making this change to a tobacco and smoke-free campus because of the concerns expressed by many of our patrons and employees,” Klipsch said in the news release. “We hope this will create a healthier and more welcoming environment for everyone who visits the library.” The current …

The High Ridge Rotary Club played Santa early this year, when they delivered and set up the new Early Childhood Learning Center toy collection at the Northwest Branch of the Jefferson County Library, according to director Pam Klipsch in a news release. The High Ridge Rotarians applied for a $2,000 grant from Rotary International to fund the purchase of the toys for the library. The Arnold branch of the Jefferson County Library, 1701 Missouri State Road, has cooked up a wide variety of children's and teen programs for October. Story Times will be at 10 a.m and 6 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays. The sessions include books and a craft activity centered on a theme. Children are invited to come in costume for the October 29-30 story times for trick-or-treating after the stories. The Story Times are open to all ages. The October meeting of Book Bites: Teen Book Club will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Oct. 4. Teens will discuss the books they’ve read in the past month while enjoying snacks.
