The victim, who died in a two-alarm house fire in unincorporated Fenton, has been identified as 24-year-old Charles Odell.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department has confirmed the identity of a man found dead inside a burning home this morning in unincorporated Fenton. The 24-year-old man has been identified as Charles Odell, said Sheriff Glenn Boyer in a news release. The next of kin have been notified. Kelly Kinealy, a friend of Odell's mother, said she watched "Charlie" grow up. She told Patch Odell was a well liked, bright young man. "He will be missed by many," Kinealy said in a comment on an earlier story. "He was a bright and lovable young man. My heart is just sad. It's a sad, sad day." Firefighters originally reported that the home at 14 Ridge Dr. was in High Ridge. However, it is located in Fenton in unincorporated Jefferson County. Odell had been…
Authorities are trying to confirm the identity of a man found inside and the cause of the fire, which completely destroyed the home.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of an early morning house fire that killed a young man inside the home. Firefighters got the call around 4 a.m., said Asst. Chief John Lakin, of the High Ridge Fire Protection District. When they arrived, flames were through the roof at the single-family home at 14 Ridge Road near High Ridge. Our partners at Fox 2 were on scene early this morning while firefighters were battling the blaze. "Neighbors told us that the home was in foreclosure, and that they thought that one of the family's kids was living there off and on," Lakin told Patch. "They said the gas had been turned off and the young man may have been using a kerosene heater to try and stay warm." Firefighters did a primary search of the …

Two adults and a young girl were trapped in a basement bathroom as the house burned above them on Thursday.
For firefighters Jack Ley and Sam Henderson, Thursday was just another day at the office. But for three people trapped inside a burning home at 79 May Valley Drive in Fenton, Ley and Henderson's actions were lifesaving. The two Valley Park Fire Protection District firefighters were part of a group of St. Louis County police officers and firefighters who swarmed to the rear of the home and discovered there were three people—two adults and a 2- or 3-year-old girl—who had taken refuge in a half bathroom in the basement of the smoke-filled house. Police officers Dawn Neuman and Chiquita Pullen from the St. Louis County Police Department's West County Precinct were the first on the scene in the backyard and discovered where the trapped people …

It's hard not to take a dramatic photo of a big fire. Access and timeliness is the key. The big house explosion and fire in Fenton last week provided a good opportunity to capture the aftermath of the destructive destructive force of the blast and resulting fire. One man was hurt as a result of the explosion and was transported to the hospital. It was also a dramatic scene in Arnold earlier in the week when a vehicle failed to negotiate a sweeping turn northbound on Jeffco Boulevard and crashed through a chain link fence, overturning in the parking lot for a vacant business. the occupants of the car scrambled to safety and suffered only superficial injuries. Another dramatic image, this time for a non-emergency reason, is a twilight photo …

To the Editor: On Wednesday, Dec. 7, our family lost our home in a fire and our world was turned upside down. Since then, it is hard to even begin describing the generous support we have received from coworkers, friends, students and even strangers in the Lindbergh Schools and Dierbergs communities. The amount of fundraising, donations and prayers we have received has proven to us what a wonderful place St. Louis is to live and work. Your support has touched our hearts and will not be forgotten. There are so many people we would like to thank, but it is an impossible task. Some donations were made anonymously or by people we didn’t know. We would like to thank our employers, Lindbergh Schools and Dierbergs, for giving us the time off we …
