Ron Jacober Rope-a-Dopes With Muhammad Ali, others: Interview Part II

From amateurs to the Olympics; KMOX's Jacober has covered it all.

Last time, Jacober talked about induction into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame and family life in the broadcast business. More today with the 42-year-broadcast veteran Ron Jacober. See Part 1 Patch: What were some of your best interviews? Ron Jacober: I interviewed Muhammad Ali several times. That has to be one of the all time best. Once late at night, I got a call in the KSD newsroom and the caller on the other end told me Ali would be up on Page Avenue tomorrow morning. He wouldn't identify himself. He said Ali was going to march to support the hungry people of the world. I said this is probably bogus but I piled the boys into the car and said 'lets go.' They wanted to know where we were going. Ron Jacober, Just Inducted Into Missouri Sports Hall of Fame: Talks to Patch

Most recognized media sports figure in St. Louis over the past four decades.

Ron Jacober has worked in the St. Louis sports media market for 42 years. He was just inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, and is a member now of four local halls of fame. He was sports director at KMOX Radio for decades. He sat down for an interview with Patch.com and this is what he had to say. Patch: First, congratulations on making the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. Ron Jacober: I was kind of overwhelmed by it. I was the only one inducted in the class of 2013 from St. Louis and it was a neat experience. I don’t know why all this is happening to me. That makes four halls of fame now. I tell people if you do something long enough, people think you must be OK? What made it so special was having my entire family there. I remember…

The St. Louis Cardinal icon and baseball hall of fame outfielder passed away Saturday night.

Stan Musial, a giant in the St. Louis community and the baseball world for more than half a century, died Saturday at his home in Ladue.  "Stan the Man passed peacefully at home at 5:45 pm tonight of natural causes. Life will never be the same without baseball's perfect knight," his grandson, Brian Musial Schwarze said via Twitter Saturday evening. Musial was 92 and had been in poor health in recent years. Musial, who entered baseball's Hall of Fame in 1969, played 22 years for the St. Louis Cardinals, amassing 3,630 hits and 24 All-Star Game appearances in a career full of superlatives. Fans of the square burger can’t wait for the restaurant’s grand opening, company officials say.

Lovers of the slider can rejoice. You no longer have to trek those many miles for what you crave: White Castle hamburgers, affectionately known as sliders. OK, so it was just over to the High Ridge White Castle, a total of 6.7 miles from the Fenton location at 1789 Bowles Ave. Still, White Castle fans are chomping at the bit. The Fenton White Castle has its grand reopening Sunday. The restaurant closed last winter so the hamburger chain could build a new building, with a new look, updated technology, and more comfort and flexibility in seating, said White Castle Vice President Jamie Richardson, from the corporate office in Columbus, OH. “As a family-owned business, we believe in re-investing in our money in the community and for the …
