Republican candidate Ann Wagner of Ballwin became Missouri's Congressional District 2 post Tuesday evening, declaring victory just after 10 p.m. at the Hilton Frontenac. Wagner defeated opponents Glenn Koenen (D-Oakville), Bill Slantz (Libertarian-St. Charles) and Anatol Zorikova (Constitution Party-St. Charles) for the seat held by GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin. As of 11:40 p.m., unofficial results on the Missouri Secretary of State website report Wagner had a 60.1 percent lead over Koenen's 37.1 percent with 75 percent of precincts reporting. One candidate includes Eureka-based George "Boots" Weber, who is a Democrat. Republican candidate Ann Wagner will speak Friday night at St. Louis County club dinner.
The Democratic field for the 2nd Congressional District House seat includes Eureka resident George Weber; Ballwin resident Marshall Works; former Kirkwood Municipal Judge Harold Whitfield; and Valley Park resident Glenn Koenen. Koenen recently stepped aside from leading the Circle of Concern food pantry in Valley Park. Republican candidates running for the seat include Ballwin resident Ann Wagner; former Webster Groves Councilman Randy Jotte; and two candidates from St. Charles County, James O. Baker and John Morris. Wagner will be the main speaker at the St. Louis County Pachyderm Club dinner Friday. The dinner be at 7 p.m. at Trattoria Branica Restaurant in Frontenac.
