'Typical Spring Flood' Expected to Ebb as Meramec Recedes This Week

Fenton's River Road lives up to its name as flood water closed it Monday. Ballfields and driving range were underwater on Sunset Hills' West Watson Road.

"We got pretty lucky, it's just a typical spring flood," said Fenton City Administrator Mark Sartors as the rising waters of the Meramec River forced closure of the River Road (Larkin Williams Road) Monday. In Sunset Hills, flood waters caused the closure of Minnie Ha Ha Park, as well as West Watson Road where the ball fields and the Sunset Hills Driving Range were underwater. A couple of St. Louis County parks in Fenton also were closed Monday due to Meramec flooding, including George Winter Park and Unger Park, as well as Valley Park's Lower Buder Park. The rising water, caused by rainfall upstream in the Meramec basin was the culprit in the flooding, according to the National Weather Service, and although the road closures were a minor …

Update: MSD Says Sewage Leak Did Not Hit River

Sewage did come out of a pipe last Thursday, but officials say it did not go into the Meramec River.

Heavy rain on Thursday overtaxed some Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District lines along the Meramec River, forcing sewage out of a pipe. A Patch reader reported the incident Thursday at two locations: where Larkin Williams Road turns to run along the Meramec and a manhole cover on the sidewalk just north of where Highway 30 crosses over the river. The manhole cover was being pushed up by the force of the water, which runs into the river. See our previous story: MSD Investigating Overflow Into Meramec River During Thursday Rainfall MSD Spokesperson Lance LeComb told Patch Friday after an investigation into the high rains that sewage did escape from an MSD pipe, but that he did not go into the river. "There was an oversaturation of the …

Plan 'B' BBQ Opens for Second Season

The Fenton food truck offers pulled pork and ribs, which are smoked for hours and covered in homemade rubs and secret-recipe sauces.

Most people aren't up in the early morning hours thinking about barbecue, much less standing at the grill. But Scott Huber isn't "most people." Huber, owner of Plan "B" BBQ in Fenton, gets up between midnight and 2 a.m. to put the pork and ribs on the smoker. After that, he swings into the kitchen to perfect his special rubs and whip up his own secret-recipe sauce. Huber opened the food truck in August on the parking lot of Plaza Pawn & Jewelers, which is his brother-in-law's business. Plan "B" BBQ closed in October and just recently reopened for its second season. Prior to opening Plan "B" BBQ, Huber worked at a taxidermy office in Valley Park. "I wanted to do something different, and barbecue was something I knew," Huber said. "My dad …
