Rockwood School District Voters: For more than 10 years, my family has been part of the Rockwood School District, and I have been involved in many of the district's efforts. Most recently, I was asked to head up the 2013 Prop S Bond Issue Committee, and of course, I said yes, to further show my support of the district and this initiative. I know how important this bond issue is to district families. Our community needs to pass a bond issue to make improvements to the schools. While funding remains a concern for many school districts, this bond issue will assist in providing safety, technology and facility improvements, which will continue to assist Rockwood School District in being a premiere school district. The ballot for the Apr. 2 local elections became final Wednesday, which was the last day candidates could file. Fenton voters will elect a new mayor to fill the seat currently held by Dennis Hancock, who announced last year that he would not seek re-election after 12 years on the job. Two people are vying for the mayor's post - Alderman Paul Seemayer, Ward 1, and former alderman Michael D. Polizzi. There also are a number of aldermanic seats up for bids but they are mostly uncontested. Ward 1 incumbent Seemayer cannot run for two offices at once, so his aldermanic seat is at stake. The makeup of the City of Fenton legislative leadership could undergo a dramatic shift after next April's municipal elections as five aldermanic seats and the mayor's position are up for grabs in the Apr. 2 municipal election. At stake are two-year terms for in each aldermanic ward as the terms of Paul Seemayer (Ward 1), Joe Maurath (Ward 2), Chris Clauss (Ward 3) and Jim Mauller (Ward 4) are set to expire in April. In addition, a one-year term will be on the ballot in Ward 1 to fill the unexpired term of Alderman Jerry Sorge, who is moving from Fenton. Just when you thought it was safe to drive around town without seeing election signs, the City of Fenton sent notice that the filing period for local candidates for the April 2, 2013 municipal elections opens Dec. 11 and closes Jan. 15. 2013. I will be voting yes on this Prop. I am still deciding which two board members to vote for out of the three I am considering. Mr. Morrell (sorry if I spelled that wrong) lost me when I read some of his comments on other articles. Just didn't seem like a person I would want to represent me on the school board. more ›
