It was a brisk, breezy, beautiful dog day afternoon Sunday as the organizers of a drive to build a dog park showed off their location in St. Louis County's Unger Park at an event it called Woofstock. A few vendors battled the light winds as a wide variety of dogs strolled along the park's hiking trail sniffing the merchandise and each other. Some even took the opportunity to take a swim in the large lake in the park. Check out all of the photos from Woofstock on the Fenton High Ridge Patch Facebook page. The committee to establish Bark Park at Unger, the first dog park in a St. Louis County Park, has scheduled it's first fundraiser - “Woofstock” - from 2 to 4 p.m. at St. Louis County's Unger Park in Fenton, sort of a "peace, love and yappiness" affair. The Bark Park group also will be making appearances at the Fenton Days 175th Birthday Party on Aug. 25, at Kirkwood's Green Tree Festival Sept. 14-16 and at a Corvette show at Jim Butler Chevrolet on Oct. 13 At the events, the nonprofit group will be meet the public, answer questions, and learn about what pet owners would like to have in a new dog park and how a dog park would affect their lives Woofstock is the first official fundraiser for Bark Park at Unger. Open Door Animal Sanctuary is planning to unleash its dogs into brand new play yards at an open house and grand opening event starting at 11 a.m. May 12. The event will conclude with a doggie parade and ribbon-cutting at 1 p.m. “We are excited about the opening of our dog park,” said Tracie Quackenbush, Open Door Animal Sanctuary’s executive director. “Our new play yards are just one more step toward our ultimate goal of providing the highest quality of life possible for the 400 animals we care for each day.” The completion of the dog park is a culmination of many months of planning.
