Manchester Police said officers pulled Michael James Fumo III over for driving 19 mph over the speed limit and found that he'd been drinking.
A Valley Park man faces his fourth driving while intoxicated charge after Manchester Police pulled him over for driving 19 mph over the speed limit. Michael James Fumo III, 28, of the 900 block of Big Bend Station Road in Valley Park, was charged Sunday with DWI as an aggravated offender. Manchester Police said Fumo was pulled over April 20 for driving 59 mph in a 40 mph zone near the Big Bend Road and Big Bend Station Road intersection in Manchester. An officer said he smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Fumo and on his breath, and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. Fumo failed a sobriety test and refused a Breathalyzer test, police said. Joseph Lee Sipe admitted to Arnold police that he had been drinking beer prior to being pulled over for speeding. His blood alcohol content was almost three times the legal limit.
A 41-year-old Fenton man is facing his third DWI charge after being pulled over for speeding near Jeffco Boulevard and Richardson Road in Arnold. Joesph Lee Sipe, of the 20 block of North Ridge Dr., has been charged for felony DWI as a persistent offender in the Nov. 2 incident, according to the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Sipe admitted to police that he had been drinking beer prior to being stopped, court documents state. His blood alcohol content was .226 percent - almost three times the legal limit of .08 percent. A sobriety checkpoint will happen in Jefferson County sometime this month. The Missouri State Highway Patrol made the announcement in a news release. Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C in Weldon Spring, stated that the highway patrol will work with local law enforcement agencies in conducting the checkpoint. The exact date and time of the checkpoint isn't available to the public. Police will conduct operation A.R.R.E.S.T. this weekend in St. Louis County to crack down on impaired driving.
Missouri State Highway Patrol officers made the announcement of the crackdown in a news release. According to the release, “Operation A.R.R.E.S.T” (Alcohol Related Response Enforcement Strike Team) will take place in St. Louis County Saturday. The operation will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 3 a.m., Sunday. "The purpose of Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. is to increase the motoring public’s awareness of the potential hazards of operating a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition," the MSHP stated in the release. Six Missouri state troopers will be conducting the operation across the county this weekend. A Fenton man faces two felony DWI charges after being pulled over by police twice within five months. Bernardo Perez, 47, of the 1400 block of Hawkins Corner Drive in Fenton, was charged Jan. 24 with driving while intoxicated, drug intoxication, as an aggravated offender in a May 16 incident. He also was charged Jan. 28 with DWI as an aggravated offender for an incident on Oct. 12.
