Operated by the Missouri Department of Conservation, the Jay Henges Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center hasMore ranges for rifles, pistols and bow and arrow. There also is a shotgun patterning range and a trap shooting range. The facilities are available for individual or group use.

The education center is designed to help the public become better and safer hunters. There are a variety of outdoor skills programs, including courses in master firearms, archery, and map and compass reading.

Uthoff Valley Elementary School is one of six elementary schools in the expansive Rockwood School District. LocatedMore in Fenton, the school has a large campus that includes athletic fields and a playground. At the rear of the campus is an outdoor classroom and a well-tended student garden.

Uthoff Valley received Promising Practices Awards from the Character Education Partnership in 2007, 2008 and 2009. The school also was recognized as a Missouri School of Character in 2009.

Northwest R-1 School District

The Northwest R-1 School District encompasses a large area in Jefferson County, including, among others, theMore communities of High Ridge, House Springs, Cedar Hill and Byrnes Mill. The central office is located behind High Rudge Elementary School. The district operates six elementary schools (K-4), three intermediate schools (5-6), a middle school (6-8) and a high schools. It also provides special education programs.

In addition, Northwest R-1 also has created a variety of programs of address the needs of students including an "at risk" program, early childhood education, English for Speakers of Other Languages, Lion Care childcare, Parents as Teachers, a re-entry student program and C.A.T.S. (Center for Academically Talented Students).

The Northwest R-1 school board is one of only six school boards in the state to receive the 2010 Education Leadership Team Award from the Missouri School Boards Association.
