The district employs 62 staff members, all cross-trained as firefighters, EMTs and paramedics. The departent was established in 1932 with an all-volunteer force and a single fire truck, affectionately known as Old Betsy. The department became a tax-supported district in 1959, alowing it to employ professional firefighters to supplement the volunteers. The Fenton Fire District staff provides a variety of community services, including a child car seat inspections, CPR classes and fire station tours, all free of charge.

The park has seven softball diamonds, eight soccer fields, six practice areas and two basketball courts. On the east end of the park is a large memorial to the victims of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The memorial also honors police, firefighters, EMS personnel and all veterans.
