We have to make people aware that our State is run by public employee Unions and we need court casesRead More like today which ruled that the California Teacher Tenure rules are unconstitutional so that we can change laws and vote people out of office who do not represent the interests of the public who pay the taxes.

Something that is interesting to note is that high school grads are going to four year universitiesRead More and studying subject that isn't marketable. While on the other hand you have people getting vocational training at vocational schools that essentially guarantees them a job out of school that will make them 'x' amount of money. So it isn't that college degrees are worthless, some are. It is also said that sometimes trade school is the right choice! As a teacher, I taught cursive writing 7 years ago to my then 3rd grade students. When I wasRead More promoted to 6th grade, I noticed more and more of my students could not write or read cursive letters/words. There is a wealth of research that shows how the brain is activated when kids write in cursive, forcing them to slow down and take care with formation and slant. I now teach/review cursive writing to my six grade students each year.

Is this really something the schools should be doing or would it be better if they offered theRead More service to parents? Schools should educate our children. Parents should be in charge of protection and discipline.

Fine with me. We have policemen in the streets watching for bad behavior. Nothing wrong withRead More "policing" the written word. It has nothing to do with Schools vs Parent obligations.

I think part of the kids' "stoic devotion" is that they are told to do so many thingsRead More without understanding why so they just do it. Also as parents we have additional burdens of work and stress, paying bills and planning for the future, that interfere with the single minded concentration most kids can give to their studies. That said I do think the amount of homework is ridiculous. I was always told and passed on that a child's job is school but they deserve a life too. Education is not the only necessity for raising a good citizen and a good person to adulthood. For the adults, I saw some good advice about integrating learning into everyday living rather than taking a sabbatical for education.
