A Healthy Heart for Valentine's Day

Stay heart healthy for those you love.

Heart health month 2012 is upon us. The symbol of the
heart means so many things to many people, such as- love, romance, life, health, chocolate.

Here's the definition from dictionary.com:

Heart- noun- anatomy-a hollow pumpkin-like organ of
blood circulation, composed mainly of rhythmically contractile smooth muscle,
located in the chest between the lungs and slightly left and consisting of four
chambers: a right atrium that receives blood returning from the body via the
superior and inferior vena cavae, a right ventricle that pumps the blood
through the pulmonary artery to the lungs for oxygenation, a left atrium that
receives the oxygenated blood via the pulmonary veins and passes it through the
mitral valve, and a left ventricle that pumps the oxygenated blood, via the
aorta, throughout the body.

Wow, it's a pretty important muscle! Quite arguably it’s our most important.  So in order to enjoy all the things the symbol means to us, we must take care of the real deal.  Of course, there are the things we hear from the health care experts all the time - eat right and exercise.

But there are many other easy, free things that can keep this mighty muscle strong and lowering stress is a biggie.  So simply sleeping, taking three focused deep breaths once in a while throughout the day, hanging with those who make you happy, reading fiction, listening to music, walking (you can even just stroll), petting your pet, sitting quietly for five or ten minutes just to clear your mind, telling someone you love something nice every day, performing a random act of kindness like opening a door for somebody.
