Memorial Day Ceremony Honors Fallen Soldiers at Fenton's Heroes Memorial

Scouts, veterans, speakers observe Memorial Day's true meaning.

Members of Boy Scout Troop 778, American Legion Post 400, the Knights of Columbus and a variety of speakers came together Monday morning to pay tribute to thoe who have given their lives for their country.

Fenton Mayor Dennis Hancock made some opening remarks at the muggy morning ceremony and introduced the ceremony's speakers, including  Pastor Matt Heck of Life Church, who led an opening prayer before turning over the podium to John Comerford, chairman of the Missouri Veteran's Commission.

Harry Doug Hawkins, commander of American Legion Post 400, led a group of legion members as they placed a memorial brick at the Heroes Memorial in honor of Carlo J. Condillire, a WWII veteran who also was a Fenton alderman from 1973 to 1980 and one of the first park board chairmen. He also was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 400.
