Summit Grad Nottelmann Playing Key Role For Mizzou Softball

University of Missouri softball pitcher and Rockwood Summit graduate Kristin Nottelmann is 17-1 for the Tigers.

COLUMBIA, Mo. - It was Kristin Nottelmann Day last Saturday.

The Summit High graduate picked up a pair of victories at home to lead the University of Missouri softball team into Sunday’s championship round of the NCAA Columbia Regional at University Field.

Nottelmann, a Fenton resident, threw a complete-game five-hitter in beating Illinois State, 12-3, in the first of three Missouri games last Saturday. The junior right-hander allowed three earned runs, struck out three and walked three in a five-inning stint.

Following a 2-1 loss to DePaul in 11 innings in a second-round game, Nottelmann and the Tigers rebounded to beat Illinois State again, 8-4, in the loser's bracket of the four-team double elimination affair.

The Tigers, now ranked fourth nationally, went on to beat DePaul twice on Sunday to win the Columbia Regional, rebounding from their defeat to the Blue Demons on Saturday. Nottelmann rested on Sunday and did not pitch.

Nottelmann led Summit to the 2007 Class 4 softball state high school championship. She also was named all-conference in each of her four seasons with the Falcons.

Missouri is 50-8 and will host the NCAA Super Regional round beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday when the Tigers battle No. 12-seed Washington. Game two of the series is set for 6 p.m. on Sunday and game three, if necessary, will be at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday. The winner advances to the Women's College World Series June 2-8 in Oklahoma City.

Nottelmann, a junior, allowed four runs over seven innings in the second game against the Redbirds last Saturday. She improved to 17-1 overall and has a 1.86 ERA. Nottelmann, in both games combined, allowed seven runs and 14 hits over 12 innings covering two complete games.

"I think we are going to be OK," Missouri coach Ehren Earleywin told his Tigers last weekend. "I told them that if there is any team that can come out of the loser's bracket and win the tournament, it's the Missouri Tigers.”

Nottelmann won 24 games last season in helping the Tigers advance to the College World Series for the second consecutive season.
