Golf: Summit Still Unbeaten

The Rockwood Summit golf team remains unbeaten in nine-hole matches this season.

The Falcons had wins last week over Parkway West, Marquette and Eureka. Lindsey Eisenreich continues to shine in her senior season. She has been the medalist in every match she has played this season and was the co-medalist with a 78 at the Angel Classic Tournament which was hosted by St. Joseph's Academy.

Soccer: Parkway Central Shutting Teams Down

Parkway Central goalkeeper Andrew Chekadanov continues his stellar play along with a stingy Colts defense. Chekadanov has recorded seven shuouts and the Colts have given up just three goals in nine games.

Parkway Central is 7-1-1 and will host Webster Groves (5-4) on Wednesday in a pivotal Suburban South contest.

Parkway West soccer is 6-7. Chandler Klemm leads the Longhorns with eight goals and 19 points. Teammate Nicholas Klemm has four goals and 10 points.

Kirkwood's Eric McWoods leads the conference with 12 goals. The Pioneers will travel to Parkway West on Tuesday evening.

Football: Parkway Central, Kirkwood Stay Hot

Kirkwood wide receiver Mike McHugh showed on Friday night why he is considered one of the best "big-play" athletes in the Suburban South Conference.

McHugh caught five passes in the Pioneers' 41-0 victory over Parkway North.

The passes, from quarterback B.J. Buckner, went for 209 yards and a pair of touchdowns covering 72 and 31 yards.

Buckner also caught a 57-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Bishop as the Pioneers remained perfect for the 2011 season.

Parkway Central had its way on the ground in a 41-3 victory over Parkway West Friday night. The Colts rushed for 372 yards as a team. Alan Gasanli led the way with 161 yards on 22 rushes. Two of Gasanli's carries resulted in touchdowns. The Colts also remained undefeated in the league and overall as did Webster Groves, which defeated Rockwood Summit 31-14.

University City receiver Alex Henry is fourth in the St. Louis-metro area with 590 receiving yards. Henry has 26 catches and is averaging 22.7 yards per catch. Defenders Kylan Clayborn and Shawn Cody are among area tackles leaders. The Lions (1-4), who won just one game in 2010, can surpass that win total with a victory this week on Thursday at Rockwood Summit (3-2) at 7 p.m.

Volleyball: Summit, Parkway North, Parkway West in First Place

The Parkway North volleyball team (9-3) was on a recent hot streak, which included 2-0 wins over Hazelwood Central, Pattonville, Fort Zumwalt North and Whitfield in the Pattonville Tournament.

The Vikings had a five-game winning streak stopped last Tuesday when they fell to Francis Howell North, 25-14, 24-26, 25-16. Howell North has a 10-2 overall record.

Kirkwood's Jordan Berry and Anne Hellwege are among the league leaders in the conference. Berry leads the conference with 106 kills while Hellwege leads in digs with 161. The Pioneers are 8-5-1.

Webster's Danielle Blossom is the Suburban South leader in digs with 270. The Statesmen are 7-6-2.

A couple of big conference volleyball games will be played this week. Parkway North is at Parkway West Monday while Summit is at Webster on Wednesday. Summit, Parkway North and Parkway West are each 2-0 in league play this season.

Softball: Seckman, Summit Setting The Pace

Seckman and Rockwood Summit shared the league lead in softball after convincing wins last week. Seckman defeated rival Fox 11-1 as Lauren Faulstich, Maddie Strickland and Lindsay Schaefer each had three hits including a home run. Schaefer also earned the win on the mound as she went the distance (five innings) and gave up just a pair of hits.

Summit blew open its game against Mehlville last Wednesday, scoring nine runs in the fifth and six in the sixth in an 18-7 win. Ellie Cooper had four hits while Shannon Koenigsfeld had a single, double, triple and four RBI to pace the Falcons.

Seckman (13-6, 4-0) and Summit (9-5, 3-0) enter play this week with perfect league records. They will play each other on Tuesday at Summit.

Patch Girls Athlete of The Week

Seckman and Rockwood Summit shared the league lead in softball, and Lindsay Schaefer is a major reason for the Jaguars’ success this season. Schaefer is batting .508 this season, and has 30 hits and a team-leading 22 runs batted in. She has 14 extra-base hits, including four home runs. As a pitcher, Schaefer is 4-3 with a 1.14 earned-run average.

Patch Boys Athlete of The Week

Kirkwood receiver Mike McHugh led Kirkwood past Parkway North last Friday, 41-0. He had five catches for 209 yards, including TD grabs of 72, 31 and 57 yards. For the season, McHugh has 15 receptions for 523 yards and seven TDs. He’s averaging a robust 34.9 yards per catch. McHugh also a TD punt return and a TD interception return.

The Pioneers are 4-0 and tied with Parkway Central for first place in the Suburban South Conference. They will play at Parkway Central on Friday at 7 p.m.
