Local Wrestlers Grapple Their Way to Final Matches

Northwest's Nick Tufts and Lindbergh's Michael Slyman to compete for state championship title.

COLUMBIA -- Day two of the 2011 Missouri Wrestling State Championships narrowed the field, leaving state champion hopefuls looking forward to Saturday action. 
 
Only 112 of the 896 wrestlers that survived day one still have a shot to win a state title. Here’s a recap of how some local wrestlers have fared in early matches:

Class 4

Rockwood Summit – In 11th place with 43 points.

Ian McIntosh will compete for third place in the 160-pound bracket. Drew Lance also has a chance to earn a third-place title in the 189-pound bracket.

Abram Reynolds is still around the consolation bracket of the 285-pound bracket.

Seckman – In fourth place with 80.5 points.

Matt Kraus and Timothy Niewald will both compete for the state title on Saturday. Kraus wrestles in the 112-pound weight class and Niewald in the 171-pound class.

Danny Farrell, Denny Kleinschrodt and Blake Pepper all have an opportunity to finish in third.

Lindbergh – Tied for 14th place with 34.5 points.

Michael Slyman has an opportunity to grab a state championship on Saturday. He will face Timber’s Jesse Freise in the 152-pound weight class.

Northwest – In 13th place with 38 points.

Nick Tufts will have a shot at the heavyweight title He will go up against Lee’s Summit West’s Evan Boehm on Saturday for the title.
