Bow hunting season started Sept. 15 and runs until Jan. 15—with a two-week hiatus for gun-toting hunters in November. Around Fenton and High Ridge, bow hunters are getting ready for the season.
Archery deer season is much longer because of the few number of bow hunters compared to gun hunters.
Supervisor Jake Hindman would like to remind hunters that safety is always the more important thing to consider when hunting.

"Most hunt from tree-stands and there's a high number of incidences from tree stand falls. Always wear a full body harness if you're hunting from a tree stand," Hindman said.
Jeff Williams, a bow hunter from Fenton, said hunters should practice their skills—a lot. Otherwise they risk wounding a deer rather than killing it quickly. Williams said that target practice is also great exercise because of all the walking he does to retrieve his arrows.

Travis Kuelker, a Wildwood hunter target shooting at Buder Park, suggested putting up your tree stand at least week before you plan to hunt.
