Rockwood Summit to Honor Meghan Herndon's Memory Apr. 20

A special ceremony will be held during halftime of a Rockwood Summit soccer game.

Rockwood Summit High School is planning to honor the memory of Meghan Herndon, a 2008 graduate, during halftime of the varsity soccer game at 6 p.m. Apr. 20.  Herndon died in 2012 as a result of injuries she sustained in an accident.  Many of her organs were donated to help give life to others, according to a nes release from the school district.

As a student at Rockwood Summit, Herndon lettered in soccer all four years and was named the Suburban South Conference Player of the Year in 2008.  Upon graduation, she continued her soccer career at Southeast Missouri State University where she was enrolled in the honors nursing program, the news release stated.

Soccer coach and event organizer Chris Kappler described Herndon as a standout student-athlete at Rockwood Summit.  “Meghan was an all-around great girl; she is dearly missed by everyone,” said Kappler, in the news release.  “We’re looking forward to bringing her parents, former teammates and friends back to Rockwood Summit to honor her memory.”
