Rockwood Summit's Alex Kehm Wins Big Scholarship, Chance For More

Alexander Kehm founded Fenton Passback, an organization that collects gently used soccer equipment and distributes in to needy soccer teams worldwide.

Alexander Kehm, a senior at Rockwood Summit High School, has turned a volunteer program he initiated into a $10,000 college scholarship with an opportunity to earn another $15,000 in college money.

Kehm has been chosen as the been chosen as the 2012 AXA Achievement Scholarship recipient for Missouri.  Funded in association with U.S. News & World Report, recipients are selected from each state based on their academic motivation and their contributions to the community.  The scholarship recipients' names will be highlighted online at U.S. News & World Report this spring.  

According to his mother, Bonny, he was selected for the scholarship in part due to his philanthropic work with Fenton Passback, an organization he founded in 2007.  To date, Fenton Passback has provided more than 40,000 pieces of soccer equipment to underprivileged children in the St. Louis area and around the world.  

Rockwood Summit assistant principal Josten Oglesby described Kehm as studious, conscientious and civic-minded.  “Alex is a great student who comes from a great family,” Oglesby said.  “He is a student-leader and an asset to our school and community.”

As a state winner, Kehm receives the $10,000 college scholarship.  While he has not decided which college he will attend, he enjoys playing the viola and intends to study music education so he can become a high school orchestra teacher. 

From the pool of 52 state winners across the country, 10 national winners will be selected to receive an additional $15,000 scholarship.
