Northwest Way Supports Nurses for Newborns

Northwest district officials presented the organization with a donation of just over $2,800 at a recent meeting.

Nurses for Newborns is the latest recipient of a donation from the Northwest School District’s Northwest Way.

Funding for Northwest Way comes from Northwest R-1 employees, who have elected to make a payroll deduction to help agencies that
do charitable work in Jefferson County.

Northwest’s Early Childhood Education program sponsored July's recipient, raising $2,808 for Nurses for Newborns. District officials presented the agency with a check at a recent board meeting.

Nurses for Newborns is a non-profit organization that provides a safety net for families most at risk in order to prevent infant
mortality, child abuse and neglect. The agency provides in-home nursing visits, which promote health care, education and positive parenting skills.

In other business, the board approved food service contracts with the following suppliers for the 2011-2012 school year:

  • Bread – Interstate Brands Corp. (Wonder Bread);
  • Dairy – Siedhoff Distributing Co.;        
  • Grocery/Frozen Foods – Fox River Foods as the primary supplier, and Kohl Wholesale as backup supplier.
