Northwest Students Excel at State Music Festival

Several Northwest High School students earned top honors at last week's Missouri State High School Activities Association Music Festival at Jefferson College.

Students who received a Division I (superior) rating were:

• Girls Vocal Solo: Emily Reiter - girls vocal solo
• Molly Fowler - girls vocal solo
• Dalton Mathis, Caleb Woodward, Brandon Janssen, Ronnie Keel, Haydn McAnalley, Matt Fowler, Andrew Johnson and Ian Stewart - men's double quartet.
• Dalton Mathis, men's vocal solo.
• Rebecca Shreiber - flute solo
• Hayden McAnalley, Alex Mullins, and Rebecca Schreiber - flute trio
• Jimmy Brouk, Emily Schmoll, and Dalton Willard - saxophone trio
• Harrison Wills -  clarinet solo
• Heather Murray, Sharon Schneider, and Harrison Wills - clarinet trio
• Mary Miller - trumpet solo
• Hayden McAnalley - flute solo

Superior–Division I rating is awarded for a clearly superior performance. The performance is worthy of the distinction of being recognized as among the very best for the event and the class of participants being judged.

All will move on to State Solo and Ensemble contest on April 27 at the University of Missouri, Columbia.

Another group of Northwest High School students earned a Division II (excellent) rating at the music festival, including:

• Stephanie Gee, Loren Gill, and Yu Xuan Lin - flute trio
• Kym Brooks - mallet solo
• Ryan Becker - tuba solo
• Sharon Schneider - clarinet solo
• Jimmy Brouk - alto saxophone solo
• Matt Gunn - alto saxophone solo.
• Cheyenne Skiles - trumpet solo
• Eli Schmidt - trumpet solo
• Molly Fowler, Annabelle Gyngard, Jenna Null, Haley Korn, Andrea Brown, and Jodi Woolsey - girls sextet
• Molly Fowler, Jenna Null, Jodi Woolsey, Haley Korn, Ronnie Keel, Caleb Woodward, Brandon Janssen, and Haydn McAnalley - mixed double quartet.
• Caleb Woodward - guys vocal solo.

The Excellent–Division II rating is awarded for an excellent performance. It is a performance of distinctive quality, reflecting more secure fundamental techniques, and a stronger musical effect than Division III.

The Northwest students were accompanied at the festival by sponsors Marleisa Amsden and Brett Dunsford.
