Northwest Schools To Add New Items to School Menus

Chicken Alfredo and a Mexican salad will be added to the 2013-14 menus

The Northwest School District Food Service Department is shaking up school menus next year by offering a variety of new choices based on USDA guideline.

One new entree will be Chicken Alfredo, a new side item will be a Mexican salad and a new dessert will be Orange Dreamsicle dessert. In addition, several other items are being considered.

As part of a recent professional development day, the staff worked on teamwork skills and a challenge was issued for each school to come up with a new menu item as a possible addition for the next school year. The school unit had four weeks to present an idea that would fit into the budget but also meet the new federal guidelines. The staff creations included, in addition to the Chicken Alfredo and Orange Dreamsicle dessert, a southwest wrap, taco salad and strawberry cake with yogurt.
