Northwest School District Elementary School Art Displayed in Capitol Rotunda

The Annual Northwest District art show will be April 28 at Brennan Woods Elementary School.

Murphy Elementary School is working with Molly Schmitt at the Northwest Branch of Jefferson County Library to showcase student artwork. The works will be displayed in the children's section of the library, located all the way to the back through the archway. The students that will be displayed in February and March include:

  • 1st grade - Bailey Olsson 
  • 3rd grade - Vince DeMarco and Austin Puckett 
  • 4th grade - Wesley Sizemore, Ben Nolden, Amanda Etchingham, and Makayla Dace 
  • 5th grade - Parker Thomas, Addi Mills, and Richard Province Jr.

The Foundry in St. Charles also is hosting an art show featuring work from students across the state. Each teacher is allowed to send two poster boards of student artwork. All of Northwest School District elementary schools are participating in the Foundry gallery showing. The show opens March 9 and runs through March 24. In the gallery adjacent to the student art is will be a display of artwork by Faith Ringgold.

Youth Art Month is taking place at the State Capitol again in March with an awards ceremony March 29, in the capitol rotunda. the Northwest School District is well represented with 20 pieces of artwork to be on display there for the month. Students from Cedar Springs, Brennan Woods, High Ridge, House Springs, and Maple Grove elementary schools are participating in the art display.

For the first time this year, state senators were asked to choose one piece of student artwork from a student in the district they represent. Sen. Ryan McKenna chose a piece of artwork done by Cedar Springs fourth grader Allison Freese. The artwork is currently on display and will remain hanging in the Capitol for about a year.
