Northwest High School Librarian named as 'Spotlight Educator'

Linda Dougherty is honored for making a difference for students and teachers through education technology.

The annual Midwest Educational Technology Conference (METC), hosted by the Cooperating School Districts, announced in a news release its Midwest Spotlight Educators.

The goal of the new recognition for 2013 is to honor leaders from the region in education technology, whose practices are making a difference for students and teachers. This is reflected in increased knowledge, improved skills and academic achievement by integrating technology into their instructional practices, according to the release.

Longtime Northwest High School Librarian Linda Dougherty is one of nine Missouri and Illinois educators to be recognized this year. Dougherty demonstrated motivation, engagement, transformation, and connection using technology to improve teaching and learning, according to the METC.

According to the METC website, “Linda J. Dougherty, high school librarian and district library chair, is surprised by her reputation as a social media maven and tech toy geek. Linda belongs to the ISTE’s Special Interest Group Media Specialists, SIGMS, where she has built her PLN by presenting at the 21st Century Digital SIGMS Playgrounds. She is a member of ALA, AASL, ASCD, MASL, MSTA, is a DEN Star and Google Apps for Education District Administrator. Linda blogs and tweets with the Geek Tribe, aka, TL Virtual Café librarians. She believes strongly in being an advocate for digital citizenship for teachers and students.”

As an award recipient, Dougherty will present at least two sessions during the METC conference February 12-13, 2013.
