New Coach Inspires Northwest Football Team

Nick Hoth takes over the program at Northwest High School.

new football coach has his work cut out for him.

Nick Hoth walked into a team that went 0-10 last season and didn’t score more than one touchdown in a game. But the new coach said he’s impressed by what he’s seen so far in the team’s attitude.

“I knew there would be some rebuilding to do, but the kids are hungry for success,” he said. “They’re buying in and doing everything I ask and a lot of it is brand new to them.”

Hoth, originally from St. Charles, has spent the last six years coaching football in Mexico, MO. He was hired in late March and met some of the students before school let out for the summer.

The biggest thing players had to get used to was a fast-paced practice, Hoth said. His style involves constant running and coaching.

The Lions have a few returning players, including running back and safety Adnan Al-Amami.

“He’ll be one of our biggest leaders on the team, but all of the seniors have showed a lot of leadership,” Hoth said.

Senior Clint Grobelny will also play on both sides of the ball as will Matt Long.

Junior Adam Roth will share the quarterback position with Al-Amami.

The Lions take on Mehlville for their home opener Friday.

“If we can get off on a roll and come out and play great football week one, that’ll just help us into the rest of the season,” Hoth said.
