Local Students Achievements Galore

Scholarship and graduation season is here and many local students made their marks

Student achievements for local college students, as well as high school seniors who earned scholarshipos to start their college careers, are numeroius at this time of year. Here's a sampling of the awards for Fenton and High Ridge students.

Melissa Keating, of Fenton, received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Foreign Languages, Journalism/Mass Communication, and David Kramer, also of Fenton, received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Physics from Benedictine College.

Benedictine College is a Catholic, residential, liberal arts college located on a 120-acre campus in Atchison, KS.

Several students were named to the academic dean's list at Creighton University for the spring semester of the 2011-2012 academic year, including:

  • Heather Malcom, of Fenton, a second year School of Pharmacy and Health Professions student
  • Corinne Seckinger of Fenton, a senior College of Arts and Sciences student
  • Hannah Zoellner of Fenton, a junior School of Nursing student

Full-time students who earn a 3.5 grade-point average or better on a 4.0 scale are eligible for the Dean's Honor Roll.

Kelsey Countryman of Fenton, has been named to the 2012 spring semester Dean's List at Ohio Wesleyan University.

To qualify for Dean's List recognition, Ohio Wesleyan students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale in all applicable classes.

Ohio Wesleyan University is located in Delaware, OH.

Several local students also were named to the dean's list at Westminster College in Fulton, MO, including:

  • Michelle Fandl, a senior from High Ridge.
  • Michael Greaves, a senior from Fenton.
  • Robert Thum, a senior from Fenton.
  • Matthew Weber, a senior from Fenton.

The Dean's List recognizes those Westminster students who have shown high academic performance during the past semester. To be included on the Dean's List, a student must have a 3.60 semester grade point average with at least 12 hours completed that semester

Two local students graduated from William Woods University in Fulton, MO. including:

  • Sara Pinkston, of House Springs, graduated with a bachelor of science degree.
  • Kelcie Spradley of Fenton, graduated with a bachelor of science degree.

Michael Greaves, of Fenton, was inducted into the national academic honorary society Alpha Chi in the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury on the Westminster College campus in Fulton, MO. Greaves is a Junior at Westminster.

Founded in 1975, the Missouri Delta Chapter of Alpha Chi is the most prestigious national academic honorary society at Westminster College. Only the top 10 percent of the senior class and the top 5 percent of the junior class are eligible to be members.

The following local students received a 2012 Outstanding Student of Achievement Award from Missouri Baptist University.

Recipients of the award are selected by a faculty vote within each academic division. Included in the criteria are academic achievement, character, and extracurricular involvement.

  • Abbas Emamjome of Fenton, received the Students in Free Enterprise Award.
  • Lauren Surdyke of Fenton, received the History Award.
  • Bryan Lada of Fenton, received the Chemistry Award.
  • Chelsea Stockton of High Ridge, received the Music Award.
  • Kathryn Flores of Fenton, received the Religion Award.

Kelley Rhine, of Fenton, made the Dean's List at DePaul University for the winter quarter of 2012. In order to qualify for the Dean's List at DePaul, students must earn above a 3.0 grade point average on a four point scale.

The following students are members of the graduating class of 2012 at Westminster College in Fulton, MO. Commencement exercises were held in May  in Champ Auditorium on the Westminster campus.

  • Daniel Hohenstein from Fenton, earned a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education/PE K-12.
  • Robert Thum from Fenton, earned a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education.
  • Matthew Weber from Fenton, earned a bachelor's degree in Middle School Education.

Andrew Cribbs of Fenton, has received the Missouri Leadership Award to attend Southeast Missouri State University.Cribbs is the son of James and Kellie Cribbs of Fenton.

Students named to the list earned at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and completed at least 12 degree credit hours during the spring session.
