Candidate Filing for Spring Local Elections Begins Dec. 11

The filing period for the Apr. 2, 2013 election is from Dec. 11, 2012 through Jan. 15, 2013. City and school board positions are at stake.

Municipal and school board hopefuls will be able to throw their hats in the election ring starting next week as the candidate filing period opens in Fenton and High Ridge. The local election is Apr. 2, 2013.

At stake are city elections in Fenton and school board contests in the Northwest, Lindbergh and Rockwood school districts.

In Fenton, a new mayor will be elected. Current mayor Dennis Hancock already has indicated he will not seek re-election to a 7th term.  First Ward Alderman Paul Seemayer announced last August that he would seek the mayor's seat. His aldermanic term will expire in April 2013, as will the terms of Alderman Joe Maurath, Ward 2, Alderman Chris Clauss, Ward 3, and Alderman Jim Mauller, Ward 4.

Two seats are up for grabs in each local local school district.

In the Lindbergh School District , candidates may file for the Board of Education at the district office at 4900 South Lindbergh Blvd. from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, beginning Dec. 11. The office will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year' Eve and New Year's Day. On the last day of filing for the school board, Jan. 15, the office will be open until 5 p.m.

The two school board seats being contested currently are held by Vic Lenz and Kara Gotsch whose terms expire in April.

Interested residents of the Lindbergh Schools who are United States citizens, 24 years of age or older, and have resided in Missouri one year preceding the election are eligible for candidacy.

In the Northwest School District, the terms of Nancy Bergfeld and Gary Bonacker expire in April, making two seats available on the school board. Each seat will be for a three-year term. Candidate filings are being accepted beginning at 8 a.m. Dec. 11, and ending at 5 p.m. on Jan. 15, 2013.

A candidate must file a written declaration of candidacy in person at the Northwest School District administrative office, 2843 Community Lane, High Ridge. To qualify, a candidate must be a citizen of the United States and resident taxpayer of the district who has resided in the Missouri one year preceding the election, and who is at least twenty-four (24) years of age.

Candidates will be placed on the ballot in order of filing. Except for the ending date, filings will be accepted Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, prospective candidates are asked to call 636-677-3473 to inquire if the office is open. Filing date exceptions are Dec. 24, 2012 until January 2, 2013 when the office is closed.

The Rockwood Board of Education also will fill two seats as the terms of Janet Strate and Stephen Banton expire in April. Prospective candidates may file paperwork from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday  at Rockwood’s Administrative Offices,  111 E. North Street in Eureka. The office will be open until 5 p.m. on Jan. 15
