Paul Wieland Announces Candidacy for State Senate 22 in Jefferson County

Paul Wieland, a Republican, has already secured the support of many Jefferson County community leaders and citizens.

Paul Wieland, state representative in Missouri’s 112th district, today announced his candidacy for next year’s 22nd Senatorial district race. Wieland, a Republican, has already secured the support of many Jefferson County community leaders and citizens. 

The 22nd District consists of central and northern Jefferson County. Because of term limits, the seat will be open; Wieland will also be forgoing a potential fourth term in the Missouri house for this opportunity. 

“Now more than ever, Jefferson County needs good-paying jobs and new economic opportunities,” Rep. Wieland said, “and I intend to roll up my sleeves in the Missouri Senate and get to work attracting more family-supporting jobs to Jefferson County.” Wieland has been one of few lawmakers to enjoy the support of business groups and labor organizations. This session, he became the Chairman of the newly-formed Issue Development Standing Committee on Missouri Ports Committee.

As owner of Wieland Insurance Group which he co-manages with his wife, Paul brings extensive real-world business experience as well as a track record as an effective pro-jobs, pro-life, and pro-Second Amendment state representative. Paul has first-hand knowledge of the challenges of meeting a payroll and competing in tough economic times.

“State government needs to respect the rights and freedoms of working families and small business owners,” Rep. Wieland said, “and the Missouri Senate is the best place for me to continue the fight to make the changes we need.”

Representative Wieland has previously defeated the only announced Democratic opponent in the state senate race. “People know me as a mainstream, common-sense representative who continuously works to bring the voice of the people to the General Assembly.”

ABOUT PAUL

A native of Jefferson County, Wieland attended St. Joseph grade school in Kimmswick and St. Pius X high school in Festus. Paul grew up working with his family in the auto parts business before launching his own small business ventures.

Paul become active in Jefferson County public service in the early 1990’s and remains involved today. He currently serves on the St. Pius X Advisory Board, Jefferson County Health and Safety Foundation Board, Jefferson County Community Partnership and as co-chair of the St. Pius X Long Range Planning Committee. Rep. Wieland also has served on the Jefferson County Health Department Board of Trustees, St. Joseph School Board, as a member of the Mastodon Arts & Sciences Fair Advisory Board, University of Missouri Extension Council, and as a founding member of Jeffco Business Network.

Paul and his wife Terri have been married 20 years, and have lived in Imperial ever since, where they raise their three daughters, Coleen, Cathy, and Nikki.  He is a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and is a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Rep. Wieland is serving in his third overall term in the Missouri House, where he currently represents the 112th House District. He chairs the Issue Development Standing Committee on Missouri Ports and is Vice Chair of the committee on Insurance Policy.
