Shine On Guffey Students. Shine On.

Artists at Guffey Elementary School brought joy and sunshine to the council chamber. These young people are great Jefferson County citizens, Missourians and Americans. They inspire us all.

Earlier this year, the following George Guffey Elementary School students were kind enough to submit artwork for display in the District 2 County Council Office in Hillsboro: Colton Busch, Penelope Chen, Elise Davis, Angelina Friedman, Preston Jones. Leila Kanteravik, Johnathan Kovak, Elise Moreno and Gabby Rose.

On April 23, several of the students and their parents came to visit with me in Hillsboro, see their artwork on display and to tour the county council and executive offices.  As you can see by the photos here, we had a wonderful time.

Guffey Elementary School has a wonderful and caring art teacher, Charley EdelmanMr. Edelman helped the students with their entries and worked with me to coordinate the visit.

From talking with these spunky first graders, it seems the highlights of the evening included finding their street on the District 2 map, practicing with the gavel at the county executive’s seat at the dais, reciting the at the microphone and leading meeting attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of the council meeting.

The pizza, tour and photo display also were well received*.

The young artists at Guffey Elementary School brought joy and sunshine to the council chamber in a manner I had not previously witnessed.  Thank you, Guffey Elementary School teachers and parents for teaching and raising these wonderful young people to be great Jefferson County citizens, Missourians and Americans.  They are an inspiration to us all.
