Hats Off to Habitat for Humanity

Joy and hope filled the air while we watched the children amuse themselves quietly as their mother, tears twinkling, thanked volunteers for brightening her future, and the future of her children.

Last weekend, I had the honor of participating in the groundbreaking ceremony of the first Habitat for Humanity project in District 2. This project, located in the Fenton subdivision of Hermitage Hills, will benefit a young family. Supported by Thrivent Financial and Hope Lutheran Church in High Ridge, work begins immediately to build this house, and you are invited to join in on the fun. A new home for a needy family spreads hope for a brighter future. This was clearly evident as the crowd watched as innocent siblings amused themselves quietly with rocks and sticks as their mother spoke, with tears in her eyes, thanking the volunteers their dedication to helping her future, and the future of her children.

I was also pleased to meet Avery Fortenberry who is poised to lead this project to completion, as he has many other home projects in the past. In addition, Dave Crump, President of the Jefferson County organization, was on hand to get the project off to a great start.

So, if you are looking to spend part of your weekend changing lives and making this world a better place, look no further than in your own community. Join the build team on any Saturday morning beginning at 7 AM and lend a hand. The build address is 14 Waybridge Court in Fenton. For more information, call Habitat at 636-933-6605 or visit their website here, or their Facebook page here.
