MSD Investigating Overflow Into Meramec River During Thursday Rainfall

Fenton City Administrator Mark Sartors said the overflow is coming from MSD lines.

Thursday's heavy rains appear to be overcharging Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District lines along the Meramec River, and forcing runoff to flow into the river.

Fenton City Administrator Mark Sartors said the line along the river is an MSD line, and if it's overflowing, it's raw sewage.

MSD Spokesperson Lance LeComb told Patch a crew has been dispatched to the area and is investigating the claim. As of 6:30 p.m., MSD couldn't confirm what was flowing into the river and where its source might be.

One location is a pipe that empties into the Meramec River where Larkin Williams Road turns to run along the river.

The other is a manhole cover on the sidewalk just north of where Highway 30 crosses over the river. The manhole cover is being pushed up by the force of the water, which runs into the river.
