New Pedestrian Bridge Slated for George Winter Park

Replacement of washed out bridge will cost St. Louis County $75,000

In a 50/50 partnership with Green Rivers Greenway, the St. Louis County Parks Department will replace a pedestrian bridge in Fenton's George Winter Park.

The St. Louis County Council on April 20 approved spending $15,000 for Reitz & Jens, Inc. to provide geotechnical and structural engineering services for the pedestrian bridge replacement project.

The existing bridge, part of the Meramec Trail that wends its way through the park, spans Fenton Creek and was washed out sometime in 2009, Paul Andrew, of the St. Louis County Parks Department, said.

The new 95-foot long bridge will be of steel construction with a concrete deck; St. Louis County''s share of the bridge cost is $75,000, Andrew said. The bridge is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.

The approximately 120-acre park, at 401 Allen Road off Old Missouri Highway 141, features a lake, boat launching ramps, vehicle parking, picnic sites and shelters, fishing access and hiking trails.
