Motorists Urged to Alter Travel Times During I-44 Antire Construction

Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) crews, along with contractor, Millstone Bangert, this week started the major impact of construction with one eastbound lane closed on Interstate 44 from Lewis Road in to Missouri Route 141.

One eastbound lane will be closed around-the-clock until mid-September as part of a pavement replacement project on I-44 at Antire Road near Eureka.

MoDOT officials remind motorists they will experience traffic delays on I-44 with this one-lane closure during morning peak travel times, especially from 6:45 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. Motorists can expect morning travel times to increase by up to 7 minutes to 20 minutes.

MoDOT managers have been evaluating the traffic delays and travel times during morning rush-hours since Tuesday to make necessary adjustments, said MoDOT's St. Louis District Engineer Ed Hassinger.

To avoid delays, motorists should alter their travel times by leaving earlier for their daily commute, Hassinger said. "We urge motorists to use alternate routes if possible."

Starting Saturday, at 7 p.m., crews will shift two open lanes on westbound I-44 near Antire Road to the eastbound lanes as part of this project—this shift originally was scheduled for Friday evening. One lane will be closed around-the-clock in each direction until mid-September. In addition, the westbound I-44 entrance and exit ramp at Antire Road will be closed for the month of June.
