Fenton Company Gets $50,000 Arnold Contract to Revise Stormwater System

More stringent environmental concerns require the city to create better stormwater filtration system.

The Arnold City Council approved a $50,000 contract last week for a Fenton company to design a program to reduce pollutants entering the city’s stormwater system.

The council then passed a second resolution authorizing the mayor to enter into a contract with  Tetra Tech, of Fenton, to begin the compliance program by mapping the locations where the stormwater system merges with area creeks.

Items such as oil, grease, pesticides, construction site sediment, trash, cigarette butts and plastic bottles enter Missouri's waterways, from the city's stormwater system, contaminate drinking water areas and destroy the environment, said U.S. Environmental Protection Agency documents included in the Arnold City Council information packet posted on the city's website.

That was the first task for the company and the council must approve all tasks in the project, Public Works Director Bryson Baker said.

Even with that caveat, approval was not unanimous. Council member Doris Borgelt cast the lone no vote on both resolutions.

“I thought it should go to a local engineering company,” Borgelt said.
