Contract of Rockwood Superintendent Extended

Bruce Borchers' contract as superintendent of the Rockwood School District was extended by the district's board of education directors at Thursday's board meeting.

Rockwood School District Superintendent Bruce Borchers will be in place at least through June 30, 2015, per the contract extension granted Thursday by the district's board of education directors.

Stepping in as Rockwood's superintendent on July 1, 2010, Borchers entered into a three-year agreement with one-year extension options. This means his original contract ran for the following school years (not calendar years):  2010-2011; 2011-2012; 2012-2013.

The extension granted Thursday covers the school year 2014-2015. He supervises 3,395 personnel.

Board President Janet Strate said the directors recognize Borchers' commitment to the district. "His action plan, which is focused on continuous improvement, continues to provide direction for Rockwood. During the next two months, we will be working with Dr. Borchers on writing performance goals for the upcoming school year."

Borchers currently makes $230,000; the new contract includes a 2 percent salary increase for this coming year. The salary of Borchers, along with other Rockwood administrators, had been frozen.

With 19 elementary schools, six middle schools, four high schools, two separate campuses for gifted education, two early childhood centers, full day preschools in all four high schools and an alternative high school, Borchers governs the . His office is in Rockwood's Administrative Center in Eureka.

"I am honored to serve the Rockwood School District. I appreciate the confidence the board is showing in me by extending my contract," said Borchers.
