Ballot Set for Apr. 2 Local Elections

In Fenton there is a two-man race for mayor

The ballot for the Apr. 2 local elections became final Wednesday, which was the last day candidates could file.

Fenton voters will elect a new mayor to fill the seat currently held by Dennis Hancock, who announced last year that he would not seek re-election after 12 years on the job.

Two people are vying for the mayor's post - Alderman Paul Seemayer, Ward 1, and former alderman Michael D. Polizzi.

There also are a number of aldermanic seats up for bids but they are mostly uncontested. Ward 1 incumbent Seemayer cannot run for two offices at once, so his aldermanic seat is at stake. Two candidates have thrown their hats in the ring - Carol Brennan and Andrew Sobey Jr.

There is a bit of an unusual situation in Ward 2 where incumbent Joe Maurath's two-year term expires in April. In addition, due to the resignation last fall of the other Ward 2 alderman - Jerry Sorge - voters will be asked to fill his vacancy for the remaining one year of Sorge's term.

Wesley Paul Verble was the only candidate to file for the two-year seat in Ward 2. Maurath opted to seek the one year term remaining in Sorge's term rather than file for re-election for a new two-year term that will be available contested when his own tenure on the board expires.

The terms of incumbents Chris Clauss, Ward 3 and James Mauller, Ward 4, also are expiring in April. Both are seeking re-election to their current posts.

In the Lindbergh School District, four candidates have filed to fill two available seats on the board of education. Adam McBride, Cindy McDaniel, Kara Gotsch and Vic Lenz have filed for the two seats that will be available when Gotsch and Lenz' terms expire in April.

In the Rockwood School District, the terms of Janet Strate and Stephan Banton are up for grabs. Both have filed for re-election. No other candidates filed.

The Northwest School District also has two incumbents who re seeking to return to the the school board after their Nancy Bergfeld and Gary Bonacker. Challengers Scott Reed and Linda Van De Riet also have filed as candidates for the two available seats.

All school board terms are for three years

In Jefferson County, the North Jefferson County Ambulanbce District will fill two seats on its board of directors. Three people have filed - Diana Davis, Rebecca Cowley and Ron Woehrle.
