Alderman Paul Seemayer First in Line to Run for Office
Filing for April's elections started on Tuesday at 8 a.m. The office of Mayor and four aldermen are up for grabs.
Alderman Paul Seemayer showed up at 7:30 a.m. to put his name on the ballot for April’s mayoral election. Current Mayor Dennis Hancock announced earlier this year that he would not seek a seventh, two-year term in the mayor's office.
Seemayer said he wanted to show his dedication to Fenton by being the first person to file.
By Tuesday afternoon, two other candidates for Fenton offices also filed. Carol Brennan will run for Ward 1 Alderman and incumbent Chris Clauss will run again for Ward 3 alderman.

Seemayer’s term as alderman is expiring in April and he cannot run for both alderman and mayor.
“So it’s this or nothing,” he said.

Seats will be open for each of the four wards. The terms of Paul Seemayer (Ward 1), Joe Maurath (Ward 2), Chris Clauss (Ward 3) and Jim Mauller (Ward 4) are set to expire in April. In addition, a one-year term will be on the ballot in Ward 1 to fill the unexpired term of Alderman Jerry Sorge, who is moving from Fenton.
Filing for municipal elections opened Dec. 11 and runs through Jan. 15. Candidates must declare their intentions and file their paperwork with the city clerk at Fenton City Hall, 645 New Smizer Mill Road. The election is Apr. 2, 2013.
