Whiskey Tasting At Work Leads to Fourth DWI for Valley Park Man, Police Say

Manchester Police said officers pulled Michael James Fumo III over for driving 19 mph over the speed limit and found that he'd been drinking.

A Valley Park man faces his fourth driving while intoxicated charge after Manchester Police pulled him over for driving 19 mph over the speed limit.

Michael James Fumo III, 28, of the 900 block of Big Bend Station Road in Valley Park, was charged Sunday with DWI as an aggravated offender.

Manchester Police said Fumo was pulled over April 20 for driving 59 mph in a 40 mph zone near the Big Bend Road and Big Bend Station Road intersection in Manchester.

An officer said he smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Fumo and on his breath, and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. Fumo failed a sobriety test and refused a Breathalyzer test, police said.

He told officers that he had been drinking at work during a whiskey tasting, according to a court document.

Fumo has three previous DWI convictions. He was found guilty of DWI in Glendale in 2011 and was convicted of DWI twice in Des Peres, once in 2005 and again in 2010.

Fumo posted 10 percent of a $25,000 bond and was released from the St. Louis County Justice Center. He has been ordered to wear an alcohol-monitoring SCRAM bracelet.
