Thieves Target Open Garages

The following information was provided by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

Wilbert Road, High Ridge

Construction tools valued at $2,090 were stolen Sept. 19 from an open garage at a home on Wilbert Road, High Ridge.

The victim said the missing items included a bag of assorted tools, a Craftsman compressor, a cordless Ryobi drill, a large toolbox with miscellaneous wrenches, two finish mailers, a Bestich nailer, a Craftsman stapler and a 55-gallon trash can. The victim also said he pegged the crime at about 10 p.m. Sept. 19 because his two dogs characteristically began barking.

Winter Bluff Dr. Fenton

A beige Coach purse, a silver Coolpix Nikon camera and miscellaneous personal papers were stolen Sept. 24 from a car in an open garage at a residence on Winter Bluff Drive in Fenton. The victim said she was awakened at 1 a.m. by a car driving by her house and realized she had not closed the overhead garage door. When she checked the garage she noticed the dome light in her car was on, which she said stays on approximately five minutes after the door is closed. That's when she discovered the missing items, which were valued at $600. The Coach purse had a distinctive multi-colored "C" logo.

Commerce Ave., High Ridge

A flatbed trailer and construction equipment were stolen Sept. 24 from the parking lot of a business on Commerce Avenue in High Ridge. The equipment was stolen at around 5:30 a.m. after the owner and an employee left to finish a job. Besides the trailer, also missing was a Rasco Vibrastat 10-ton rolling machine, two chains and two binders. The owner of a business across the street said said he saw two men standing around a blue Chevrolet pickup truck at the business about 7:45 a.m. but said it was not out of the ordinary to be in and out of the business picking up or dropping off items. When the owner returned from the job he was finishing up he discovered the items missing.

Green Jade Estates Dr. Fenton

A white and black 2009 Honda CBR 600 RR, Phoenix special edition motorcycle was stolen Sept. 27 from an open garage of a residence on Green Jade Estates Drive in Fenton. The victim had left the key in the ignition of the motorcycle and left the garage door open.
