Barn Vandalized, Tibetan Mask Stolen From Storage Unit

The following information was provided by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

Valley Dell Rd., High Ridge

Someone vandalized a storage barn Dec. 10 at a residence on Valley Dell Rd., High Ridge, by starting two fires inside. The fires were subsequently put out with a fire extinguisher inside the barn. Entry to the barn was made through an upstairs window that had been broken with an axe or a sledge hammer. In addition to the fire damage, an upstairs door and several items inside the barn also were damaged, including the interior paneling and a boat.

A 19th Century Tibetan ritual skull, valued at $900, was stolen sometime between Nov. 1 and Dec. 12 from a storage facility on Jacqueline Drive, High Ridge. The storage unit owner told deputies  his grandson had assisted him with the items in the storage unit previously and had access to the storage unit key and the gate entry code. When the storage unit owner tried to add some items to the unit, he discovered his key was missing. He called the storage unit office and was told the grandson had been frequently removing items from the unit during the previous few weeks. The storage unit owner said he was unsure if any additional items were missing.
