Manhole Covers Targeted by Thieves

The following information was provided by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

High Ridge Boulevard, High Ridge

Manhole covers and steel drain grates were stolen sometime after 6 p.m. Dec. 28 from a car wash on High Ridge Blvd., in High Ridge. The car wash had to be closed because of the missing grates, which created a safety hazard. The manhole covers and grates were valued at $2,800.

Gravois Road, Fenton

Manhole covers valued at $2,995 were stolen Dec. 28 from a vacant gas station on Gravois Road in Fenton. A nearby business owner had notified the construction manager of the vacant gas station that the manhole covers were missing.

Averiro Dr., Fenton

A handgun, valued at $162, and a wallet turned up missing Dec. 30 from a vehicle on Averiro Drive, Fenton. The homeowner told deputies he had been firing the handgun, a C-9 9mm black High Point semi-automatic, at the off of Antire Road and had last seen the weapon when a friend placed it in his vehicle there. Later, when he was looking for his wallet, which also was in his vehicle, he noticed the handgun was missing. The man said he had been driving around for awhile and when he parked his car at his home he did not lock it up since he never locks his car.
